Flexers: Do you Kubuntu?

About a month ago I finally took the plunge. I'm using Kubuntu Linux 7.04 on my home desktop and couldn't be happier. Unfortunately I still must use Windows on my work laptop. Why? I teach Flex, and Flex Builder is (officially) not available for Linux. The is a hacked version out there if you look hard enough.

Just wondering, would you move to Linux if FB was available? Are you already using Linux for development regardless? I'd be interested in your feedback. Maybe if the right people at Adobe hear our pleas...

Randy's Gravatar I, too, use Linux. I have Coldfusion installed and would love to see Flex available for Linux. Windows is still a necessary evil.

Michael Brennan-White's Gravatar I am running Ubuntu after quite a hassle getting it installed. I think that Dell providing Ubuntu on computers now will be a good thing and perhaps lead to some standardization of the install instructions

akeem's Gravatar I have Ubuntu on my desktop and it's been great so far. I do my development on my laptop so its been ok so far. A nix flex builder would be great because I have been trying to use eclipse as my all in one IDE and it would be like planets aligning if I could do my dev on Ubuntu.

julien's Gravatar Hi, I have Ubuntu at home and Windows at work, I'd also like to have FlexBuilder (and the Apollo extensions too) for linux cause it really makes me save a lot of time, but in the meanwhile I got the Flex SDK and my text editor, it's a bit more "oldschool" but I quickly adopted it and I really don't miss the Flash IDE on linux.

darron's Gravatar I run 64-bit openSUSE 10.2 Linux, and develop in FlexBuilder 100% of the time. I use the FlexBuilder 2.0.1 for Linux that's floating around the internet (see Tom's link, above).

It works great, is nice and reliable, and I don't have any complaints (I don't use design view too often, so I don't miss it). It's been a real treat working in Linux. I really hope Adobe makes an official FlexBuilder for Linux version one of these days...

Mike Kelp's Gravatar I run linux on almost every machine I have and really wish I could rid myself of windows. The two main applications we use that keep windows necessary are SQL Server Manager and Flex Builder. While I don't suspect SQL Server Manager will become linux ready anytime soon, I would be able to take my windows installs down to one machine that we could use for testing and database stuff.

What drives me nuts is paying Microsoft license fees for software I don't want so that I can install the Adobe software I love. I think if Adobe realized that they would make more software available for linux so we had the option to quit handing competitors money to run Adobe's software. That to me is a big issue with MS...by developing something and doing well on their platform they have a very high rate of deciding to become your competitor or flat out destroying you later.

Mike.

Najier's Gravatar For sure. We are interested in launching flex based products on smaller device running Linux. So the sooner Adobe get their act together the better as the market for RIA mobile applications running on small devices is huge!!!
