Flex is free, Leo!
I just watched the new Lab with Leo Laporte show on TechTV. I like the new format. As a long-time fan of Leo Laporte I was disappointed that he allowed someone on his show to completely misrepresent Flex 2. During a short segment on Flex 2, Leo's "webmaster" (so 90s, dude) claimed that Flex costs around $800 and left it at that. End of story, cue the loud thud...
In one fell swoop, he just turned hundreds, if not thousands, of viewers off the Flex platform.
Leo, if you're reading this: the Flex SDK is free and will shortly be open-source. The compiler and libraries are free. There are no license restrictions on Flex apps you create using the free SDK. The person reporting on Flex 2 obviously was confused and thought that Flex Builder was Flex.
As an aside, when the old Call For Help show was produced in Toronto, I sent Leo and his co-host emails expressing my desire to visit the show and give an overview of Flex. Too bad no one replied.
Leo, I'm still a fan, but please double-check your facts before broadcasting to the world!
Wow, my first rant. So 90s, dude...
