Rant: My Yahoo! My A**!

I've just about had it with these idiots. For years I've been able to use My Yahoo! page under Linux. Now, all of a sudden I get this condescending message.

I wouldn't mind using the new beta version if it didn't suck so badly. You can't even customize the display font like you could in the new version. It's just plain "fugly." And you simply cannot get back to the old version (which worked fine!).

I tried to contact them about this to no avail.

If anyone from Yahoo! is reading this, you've just pissed off every Linux user out there. Nice work!

Jim Priest's Gravatar That's crazy. If they already support Firefox what's the problem?? It's really sad there is still stuff like this out there...

Steve Carlson's Gravatar Hi Oliver,
My apologies that the warning page comes across as condescending. It's meant to communicate that we haven't explicitly QA'ed the new My Yahoo! on your combination of browser and platform, although it may (and in this case, should) work just fine. If you click the "Continue to My Yahoo! beta" button, you should be able to use the beta and never see that message again. In the not-so distant future the warning will show up for a smaller set of browsers and platforms, and hopefully be a little more clear about what's going on for those who still see it.

Better font control is definitely on our list of things to tackle soon, so rest assured we're on it. If there are other things about the beta you're not thrilled with, you should definitely visit our suggestion board (http://suggestions.yahoo.com/?prop=my), as that's the quickest and most reliable way to get feedback (& rants!) in front of the people who can make things change. (Our product managers spend a crazy amount of time reading and responding to the posts there...)

Oliver Merk's Gravatar Steve,
I appreciate your response. However, I should have the option to continue using the current version (at whatever peril). The fact that my *only* choice is to use the beta is what's frustrating.

Thanks again for responding.

Oliver
